PUBLIC HEALTH AND COMMUNITY ORIENTED PHYSICIAN
BLOCK
2018 - 2019 ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAM
PUBLIC HEALTH INTERNSHIP
* Pharmacology: Pharmacology clerkship program is held in Başıbüyük Campus and it constitutes the first two weeks of Public Health Block.
* Common Week: Third week of the Public Health Block defined as the common week with the attendance of both groups concomitantly.
* Public Health: Public Health core education constitutes six weeks of the block. Theoretical lectures are held at Başıbüyük Campus. Practical lectures are held in the affiliated Community Health Centers such as Pendik, Kartal and Maltepe CHCs, Public Health Laboratories, Nursing houses, kindergartens, Rehabilitation centers, pharmacies, municipalities, tuberculosis control dispensaries, occupational health centers and public institutions that provide preventive and formative public health services. Two-week long theoretical and practical Occupational Health and Work Safety workshop is also included in the program. In addition, academic discussion/seminar sessions take place every Friday at 14.00. Students are encouraged to participate in those sessions if it is suitable with their schedule.
* Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine: Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine constitutes two weeks of the education block. Two different groups receive the lectures alternately. Forensic Medicine education involves visits to Forensic Medicine Institution and lectures at Marmara University Pendik Research and Training Hospital. Psychiatry education is held at Marmara University Pendik Research and Training Hospital and night shifts are spread over the entire education block. Night shifts take place between 17:00 and 08:00 the next day and they are announced at the beginning of the education block. There are no night shifts on the Weekends and national holidays.
* Family Medicine: Family Medicine constitutes 3 weeks of the education block. The program is held at Family Medicine Institutions. During this section students work at predetermined health institutions.
* Obstetrics and Gyneacology: Obstetrics and Gyneacology constitutes 2 weeks of the education block . The program is held at Marmara University Pendik Research and Training Hospital. Students work during this section in Obstetrics and Gyneacology wards.
* Research: Research planning section takes approximately 2 (two) weeks and the courses are divided through the entire internship program (Planning, Biostatistics, data analysis, presentation of research proposal, preparation of research report). Students are expected to design, conduct and analyze a research. Research activities are conducted under the supervision of a professor and at least one research assistant. The research grade is included as a seperate grade in the transkript (Passing the internship does not meancompleting the research). The supervisor can be one of the professors in the 8 departments in the campus.
* Multidisciplinary meetings (MTD): Multidisciplinary meetings are held on Wednesdays mornings or afternoons. Both groups attend together to the MTDs. The place for the meetings are stated in the program as Başıbüyük Campus or Pendik Hospital. Please check the program for time and place. MTDs are run by the Department of Family Medicine.
* Group representatives: contact information is collected from all students and a student is designated as a representative for each group on the first day of the internship. The representatives are informed about Family Health Centers (ASM-FHCs); study/research/TSM groups and the possible changes in the curriculum and are expected to transfer the information to the entire group.
* Free study time/Consultation with the supervisor: The time between 16:00-17:00 is scheduled for individual study time (literature review, interview with relevant health authorities, approval of the study by Ethics Committee and research institution) and consultation with the supervisor. Consultation time may vary depending on the work schedules of supervisors and research assistants. Therefore, it is recommended for students to communicate with their advisors in advance.
